Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:39:08 Europe/London

Let's take a quick look at the different types of Natural Stone tiles. Natural stone comes in many types, sizes and grades. At Premium Stone we only sell 1st grade natural stone. So no matter which tile you choose, it will be a top quality stone tile.

Here are the main 3 types of natural stone tiles:

Marble

Marble Roomset

Marble is a very luxurious natural stone and is most commonly found with a highly polished finish, but is also available in a brushed or matt finish. Marble tiles tend to have heavy veining. Unlike Travertine, Marble doesn't have voids in the surface that require filling. As with all Natural stone, marble needs to be sealed.

Travertine

Travertine

Travertine can give both a luxurious and rustic effect. Due to the nature of travertine, it has voids in the tiles that required filling. A lot of travertine comes honed an filled, but it is also available unfilled. Travertine is available in a honed or polished finish. Travertine is a porous natural stone and requires sealing.

Limestone

Limestone

Limestone is a very smooth looking natural stone that can be used to give a luxurious or rustic finish. Limestone is available in a honed or polished finish. Limestone is very porous and requires sealing prior to fitting.

Hopefully the above has given you a little insight into the different types of natural stone and which one may be more suited to you. We know choosing tiles can be a difficult decision which is why we offer a free sample* service. Viewing tiles at home will make your decision much easier.
